Welcome to the Grand Metropark Hotel.

What a space this is! I can hardly believe my luck and good fortune at having this lovely, large suite to spend my quarantine in. I'm incredibly grateful to all who helped arrange this.

Check In

Our excitement peaked as we recognized different landmarks nearing the hotel. While not being familiar with this particular section of the city, we passed many recognizable areas and wondered aloud where we were headed. Pulling into the hotel parking lot, we saw that the front of the hotel was closed off with a high yellow portable fence. A guard let our van through, and we unloaded our bags from the back before proceeding into the vacant, darkened lobby. It's interesting and slightly apocalyptic to see these places devoid of all bustle and life. I wonder wistfully when these incredible spaces will operate again as they were originally designed to. We slid our passports underneath the plexiglass partition at the front desk to the concierge in full hazmat attire and took in the formal lobby. The enormous golden chandelier hung dark, cafes and shops filled with silk and jade souvenirs stood shuttered. A small orange cat quietly slunk in through the automatic doors and hid behind a small table with a white cloth. The concierge informed us that we would be staying for 25 days. After paying, he gave us our room keys and directed us to the doctor at the end of the front desk. We received a plastic bag of toiletries and several informative documents regarding our stay. Thanking him, we proceeded down the empty, cavernous hallway to the elevators.

Room 1803 is my home.
